Wedding Wednesdays! I anticipation of the paperback publication of my novel Abigail and Alexa Save the Wedding about the Wedding Industrial Complex, I’m doing a series a of special posts for the next month or so. So sure, let’s give a podcast a whirl over here on Substack.
Last month, I was a guest on my sister Liz Dolan’s podcast Lizness School. I’ve posted a special version of the episode here— a cut just for Substack. I talk wedding planning, finding a role as a mother-in-law and a special bonus feature— wedding planning tips for Mothers Of.

Lizness School is all about transitions and lifelong learning and I am a big believer in both. I am also a new mother-in-law and pulled off a home wedding a 2 months on New Year’s Eve in Pasadena, California for my oldest son and his lovely bride. All after having written a book about weddings last year. (Find Abigail and Alexa save the Wedding here) I was happy to talk to Liz and her co-host Leah Sutherland about the wedding, the transition and my tips for Mothers of the Bride and Mothers of the Groom when planning/hosting a wedding.
Listen, comments and share your own MOB or MOG tips here. I’ll be putting together a longer list for future posts, so I’d love to hear your biggest take aways from watching your own bride or groom walk down the aisle.
Cheers, Lian
To celebrate the PaperBack release, I’m declaring September to be Book Club Month. Choose Abigail and Alexa Save the Wedding as your summer pick and I’ll be happy to drop into your book club via Zoom or in person if you are in the Pasadena area. Contact me through my website and let’s find a date that works.
